New Tradition Homes earns honor for energy efficiency

New Tradition Homes has been named a winner of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2009 Energy Star Leadership in Housing Award.

The award recognizes the contribution New Tradition Homes has made to energy-efficient construction and environmental protection by building more than 139 Energy Star qualified homes last year.

Collectively, these homes will save customers approximately $62,133 on utility bills each year.

Vancouver-based New Tradition Homes has launched a sister company, New Tradition Realty, to assist new homebuyers and those wishing to re-sell existing homes.

Vancouver, Wash.-based New Tradition Homes was recognized last week at the launch of the Building America Builder’s Challenge for excellence in building high-performance, energy-efficient homes.

The builder’s challenge was developed by U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman and called on U.S. homebuilders to build 220,000 high-performance, energy-efficient homes by 2012. A high-performance home would use 30 percent less energy than a typical new home.

New Tradition Homes is building 86 houses in a new Ridgefield, Wash. subdivision.

Homes in the Columbia Hills community near Interstate 5 will range in size from 1,677 square feet to 2,833 square feet, with prices starting at $289,900.

Each home will be built to Energy Star and Earth Advantage standards for energy efficiency. Sales begin Saturday at a model home in the builder’s Windsor Downs subdivision in Vancouver.
