2009 ENERGY STAR® LEADERSHIP IN HOUSING AWARDNew Tradition Homes earns award for building new homes that protect the environment through energy efficiency

Vancouver, WA – New Tradition Homes is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a 2009 ENERGY STAR Leadership in Housing Award. This award recognizes the important contribution New Tradition Homes has made to energy-efficient construction and environmental protection by building more than 139 ENERGY STAR qualified homes last year. Collectively, these homes will save our customers approximately $62,133 on utility bills each year.

The environmental benefits of these ENERGY STAR qualified homes are equal to the equivalent of:
• Eliminating the emissions from 68 vehicles;
• Saving 411,996 lbs of coal;
• Planting 113 acres of trees; or
• Saving the environment 808,007 pounds of CO2 per year.

To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20–30% more efficient than standard homes.

2008-2009 ENERGY STAR® Regional Builder of the Year

2008-2009 ENERGY STAR® Regional Builder of the YearFor the second year in a row, New Tradition Homes has won the most prestigious ENERGY STAR® award: Regional Builder of the Year. This award is given to only one builder in the four-state region comprising of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.

"This award is a great accomplishment which shows that we continue to be a leader in the Building Science arena, and are committed to building energy efficient, healthier, better built homes," commented Kelly Helmes, Vice President of New Tradition Homes.

Key factors that went into receiving the award were the number of ENERGY STAR® certified homes, company training, quality control standards and advanced construction methods. Not only are all New Tradition Homes ENERGY STAR® and Earth Advantage® Gold third-party certified, but the company continues to improve efficiencies in design and implement them through advanced construction techniques. Newly designed plans remove ducts from the attic and crawlspace, inserting them into the conditioned areas of the home to improve energy efficiency and increase air quality.

2007 Award for Sustainable Community Design

2007 Award for Sustainable Community DesignNew Tradition Homes received the 2007 Award for Sustainable Community Design from the Clark County Public Health Advisory Council.

The award was given based on the advanced construction techniques and forward-thinking applications developed by the Building Science Team at New Tradition Homes in a research partnership with Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America program.

In the project, test homes built to Energy Star Northwest Program standards are being evaluated for overall energy efficiency and indoor air quality. In an economy characterized by increasing home prices, fuel (petroleum and natural gas) and electrical rate costs, along with growing concerns over decreasing indoor air quality, this project demonstrates that New Tradition Homes is committed to providing a product that will:
• Provide consumers with significant long term savings
• Improve indoor air quality and consumer quality of life
• Appeal to energy conscious consumers and support green building
initiatives

“We believe that this is a better way to build homes. It is our hope that other builders will also recognize the value of bringing high quality, affordable homes that are energy-efficient and environmentally conscious to the market,” said Kelly Helmes, Vice President of New Tradition Homes.

2006 Tri-Cities Parade of Homes

2006 Tri-Cities Parade of HomesThe 2006 Parade of Homes entry for New Tradition Homes was their first ENERGY STAR® home in the Tri-Cities market, and took home four awards at the 2006 Parade of Homes. Awards were given for:
• People’s Choice Award—Category II
• Builder’s Award—Exceptional Floor Plan
• Judge’s Award—Best Landscaping
• Judge’s Award—Best Interior Design

The People’s Choice Award was an especially gratifying honor. New Tradition Homes’ entry was the smallest building footprint in the category. “Knowing that the consumers selected our home for this award demonstrates that value is found not just in the square footage, but in careful design and sensitivity to those amenities homebuyers value most.” said Kelly Helmes, Vice President of New Tradition Homes.

In 2005 the company also received awards in the categories of Builder’s Award—Exceptional Floor Plan, Judge’s Award—Best Landscaping, and Judge’s Award—Best Interior Design. The New Tradition Homes team was delighted. Noted Helmes, “These awards confirm that our personal goal of consistently bringing high quality homes and affordable homes to the market is being achieved, and more importantly, recognized and valued by both the industry and the public.” The company is a leading builder of ENERGY STAR® homes in Southwest Washington.

The ENERGY STAR® label is awarded to homes that have been independently verified as being at least 15% more efficient than required by state or local energy codes. According to Northwest ENERGY STAR®, the homes “…perform better than standard new homes, and require less energy to operate equipment like furnaces and water heaters. When this equipment runs more efficiently, air pollution is reduced, providing a healthier environment for everyone.”

The award-winning home features a one-floor plan, which is rising in popularity. The new one-story plan can be found at Broadmoor Estates in Pasco. New Tradition Homes presents five one-story home plans, offering 1,536, 1,604, 1,716, 1,728, or 2,156 square feet to address the needs of a variety of home buyers.
