Every New Tradition Home comes with a HERS score. So, what exactly is a HERS rating? HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. This measurement is the national standard for assessing the energy efficiency of a home. The lower the score, the more energy efficient the home is considered to be.
How do you determine a HERS score? Generally speaking, each percentage point that you improve on the HERS Index will amount to an equivalent percentage of cost-savings. There are many variables that impact the HERS score, including the home’s exterior walls, its ceilings and roof, and its attics, foundations, and crawl spaces. Our certified Home Energy Rater will evaluate the insulation inside the walls and ceilings as part of the energy audit.
Home Energy Rating System, or simply HERS, is a scoring system set by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to measure a home’s energy efficiency and determine if it meets ENERGY STAR guidelines. The lower the HERS Index, the more energy efficient the home.
You wouldn’t buy a new car without knowing how many miles per gallon it gets... So, why should buying a home be any different? Think of a HERS score as the MPG rating for your home.
Outside of your mortgage, the highest cost of homeownership is ENERGY. With home energy costs skyrocketing, it only makes sense to find out how energy efficient a home really is.

New Tradition Homes was such a pleasure to work with, it was an amazing experience building our first home with them. Every person we interacted with was knowledgeable and extremely friendly. We had a good balance between standard amenities and upgrades to fit our budget and make our home perfect for us. We highly recommend New Tradition Homes and would work with them again if we ever wanted to build again!
