Your Winter Maintenance Checklist

December 16, 2020

One of the best things about living in Vancouver or the Tri Cities area is the beautiful year-round weather. With mild winters and minimal snowfall, you can continue to enjoy outdoor recreation in the cooler months — but there are still a few key maintenance items to check off your list before you do.

Once you have these tasks squared away, you can enjoy all of the outdoor fun that Washington has to offer without a worry about your home.

Winterizing Your New Home in WA

Outside of Your Home

  • Check for leaks in windows and roofs
  • Seal gaps and cracks around windows and doors with weatherstripping and caulk
  • Repair damaged roof shingles
  • Turn off exterior water and sprinklers
  • Close shut-off valves, then open the outside faucet to drain the line
  • Fix damaged walkways and steps
  • Clean and store outdoor summer furniture, grilling equipment, and children’s toys

Inside of Your Home

  • Have the furnace inspected by a professional and replace filters
  • Clean dryer vents
  • Remove ash from the fireplace and clear soot off the glass door

No matter how you plan on enjoying the winter, there are a few things you can do to ensure that no surprises interrupt your best moments. After a day out exploring the wonders of your neighborhood and beyond, you’ll return to a home that’s safe and sound, with all of that winter coziness you know and love.

From all of us at New Tradition Homes, we hope you enjoy a happy and safe winter season!

This was our first time building a home. Our experience couldn’t have gone any smoother. New Traditions has made the process so easy and stress free. The customer service we received during building, closing, and then recently at our two year check in was excellent. I can’t recommend enough.
