New Tradition Homes Wins Energy Star Partner of the Year Award!

April 1, 2024

New Tradition Homes has been dedicated to building the most energy-efficient homes for years. Everything we do is designed to make our homes greener, cleaner, and smarter. From the roof to the foundation, the walls to the floors, the lights to the counters, New Tradition homes are good for the environment.

That dedication is why we can proudly announce that we received the 2024 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for continued leadership and superior contributions to ENERGY STAR®. This is our seventh time receiving this national honor, which highlights our ongoing commitment to our homebuyers, our communities, and our environment.

Sustained Excellence for Seven Straight Years

What is the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award? Each year, the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program honors businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. The highest honor among the ENERGY STAR Awards is the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award. EPA presents the Sustained Excellence Award to partners that have already received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition for a minimum of two consecutive years and have gone above and beyond the criteria needed to qualify for recognition.

For us at New Tradition Homes, this is our 7th consecutive year winning the Sustained Excellence award. We have received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award on the National Level every year since 2015. We received it on the NW Regional Level for seven years before that.

Within the New Home Builder sector, the ENERGY STAR award recognizes that we are actively building and promoting energy-efficient homes. To qualify, we must have constructed at least 50 ENERGY STAR-certified homes in the previous calendar year, and formally committed to building 100% of our homes to meet ENERGY STAR program requirements.

This year we are proud to join the 211 organizations representing the top ENERGY STAR program partners. Making significant contributions in support of the clean energy transition, the winners come from 38 states and localities, representing multiple economic sectors.

To earn ENERGY STAR certification, a new home must undergo a rigorous process of third-party inspections and testing to verify that all applicable program requirements are met. For site-built homes, this verification is performed by an independent home energy rating company, and under the oversight of an EPA-recognized Home Certification Organization (HCO) or a Multifamily Review Organization (MRO), depending on the verification method used. By safeguarding the integrity of ENERGY STAR, EPA can support the thriving private market that has been built around its performance-based definitions of leadership in energy efficiency.

Energy-Efficient Homes Built the Right Way!

Not satisfied with merely building ENERGY STAR homes, we’re now one of the first ENERGY STAR NextGen™ Builders in the United States. New Tradition Homes proudly leads the industry in achieving ENERGY STAR NextGen™ Certification. This groundbreaking program takes our energy efficiency to new heights, ensuring that each of our homes is not just a house but a beacon of innovation. They not only include features and systems that are more comfortable and healthier but also incorporate leading-edge efficient electric technologies and electric vehicle charging capabilities to maximize energy and emissions savings.

Additionally, every New Tradition Home comes with a HERS rating. What is a HERS rating? HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System. It is a scoring system set by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to measure a home’s energy efficiency and determine if it meets ENERGY STAR guidelines. This measurement is the national standard for assessing the energy efficiency of a home. Think of it as the MPG rating for your home. Lower scores mean higher energy efficiency, leading to enhanced comfort, reduced utility costs, and a greener living space.

Outside of a mortgage, the highest cost of homeownership is energy. With home energy costs skyrocketing, it makes good sense to find out how energy-efficient a home really is. New Tradition Homes, designated an Energy Smart Builder by RESNET®, ensures each of our homes undergoes third-party energy rating, resulting in a HERS score for every customer. This score provides a quick insight into a home’s energy efficiency, empowering buyers to make informed decisions.

So, how are HERS scores determined? Many variables impact the HERS score, including a home’s exterior walls, ceilings, roof, attics, foundations, and crawl spaces. A certified Home Energy Rater evaluates all of these features as part of the HERS energy audit. Each percentage point that we improve on the HERS Index amounts to an equivalent percentage of cost savings.

This was our first time building a home. Our experience couldn’t have gone any smoother. New Traditions has made the process so easy and stress free. The customer service we received during building, closing, and then recently at our two year check in was excellent. I can’t recommend enough.
